Promotion of Associate Professor Daniel Sakyi to Professor at KNUST
The Department of Economics, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, is proud to announce the promotion of Associate Professor Daniel Sakyi to the rank of Professor, effective August 1, 2023, following the approval by the University Council on December 19, 2024.
Professor Sakyi currently serves as a Faculty member in the Department of Economics and Director of the Centre for Cultural and African Studies (CeCASt) at KNUST. He also holds Visiting Professor positions at the Department of Economics, University of Cantabria, Spain, and the African Economic Research Consortium’s (AERC) Shared Facility for Specialisation and Electives, hosted by the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
Professor Sakyi is an alumnus of Mfantsipim School, Cape Coast and a former Volkswagen Foundation (VW) Senior Fellow. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Geography from KNUST, an Erasmus Mundus Master of Arts in Economics of International Trade and European Integration from University of Antwerp, Belgium, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Economics from University of Pisa, Italy.
Professor Sakyi is specialized in development macroeconomics and growth, international trade and finance, and regional integration, areas he has contributed significantly through teaching, research, and policy engagement over the past 12 years. He has also led several research projects funded by international organizations, including the VW Foundation, the AERC, the International Growth Centre, and the African Capacity Building Foundation.
Professor Sakyi has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including Macroeconomic Theory, International Economics, International Development, Monetary Economics, Development Economics, International Money and Finance, and International Agricultural Trade and Policy. Additionally, he has contributed to the development of future leaders in economics through supervision of several undergraduate, master’s and Ph.D thesis.
Professor Sakyi has actively participated in international conferences and workshops across the globe and his research works have appeared in reputed peer reviewed journals, including Review of World Economics, Review of Development Economics, Applied Economics, the International Trade Journal, the Journal of International Trade and Economic Development, Maritime Economics and Logistics, Maritime Policy and Management, African Development Review, and Journal of African Trade, among others.
The Department of Economics extends its warmest congratulations to Professor Sakyi on this well-deserved promotion to become Professor of Economics and celebrates his scholarly contributions to the advancement of economics education and research.
