Hello, welcome to the Department of Economics

It's my pleasure to welcome you to KNUST and the Department of Economics!

You’ve made a great choice in joining a department renowned for shaping economic thought in Ghana and beyond. Studying economics equips you to address important challenges in the economic environment of business, public policy, and sustainable development.

Our mission is to equip graduates with the analytical and critical thinking skills needed to succeed in all professional environments. We provide high-quality education through our innovative curriculum led by experienced faculty. Through our engagements across industry, government agencies, development organisations, think-do tanks, and academia, we prepare students for impactful careers in Ghana, Africa, and the global economy.

The success of our graduates highlights the strength of our programmes. Alumni from the Department excel in diverse fields, including economics, finance, international trade, public policy, data analytics, and business management. Many of them hold leadership positions in important national and international organizations including, the World Bank, African Development Bank, International Finance Corporation (IFC), Ghana Revenue Authority, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Bank of Ghana, Ghana Statistical Service, World Health Organisation, Universities, Africa Centre for Economic Transformation, among others. Many ministers of state, public and private executive officers (CEOs) also made it through the Department of Economics, KNUST. 

As your academic journey begins, I encourage you to engage actively with your peers, faculty, and the vibrant KNUST community. I urge you to make your health and well-being a priority. Take advantage of student-led initiatives and professional networks (ESA, GRASAG, etc.) to enhance your experience and broaden your horizons. Our team is always available to support you, so do not hesitate to reach out whenever you need guidance.
